2011 Great Plains Area Council Award Outstanding Board Volunteer

Selected among over 300 board volunteers within South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota, Lynne Doom has been named the Outstanding Board Volunteer by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) Great Plains Area Council for her service to Clubs.
Lynne has been associated with the Boys & Girls Club of the Missouri River Area for ten years. During that period she served on various committees, including the Merger Task Force, Advisory Board and Resource Development Committee. Over the years, Lynne has also served as Secretary, Vice President and President of the South Dakota Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, and Vice Chair and Chair for the Great Plains Area Council representing over 40 Boys & Girls Club Organizations in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota.
Lynne has been instrumental in the increased participation by Native American Clubs, instilling in them a sense of belonging, power and influence. She was also influential in the inclusion of Native American Youth entertainment at the Great Plains Area Council meetings, and tailored the Great Plains Area Council agenda to reflect the interests of its 15 Native American organizations that represent 44 units.
The Great Plains Coalition of Native American Clubs was established under Lynne's leadership to secure sustainable funding to strengthen its member organizations. Its objectives included hiring a Chief Development Officer to pursue private dollars for yearly sustainable funding for the Native American Clubs in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa; working with Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Government Relations Office to pursue federal fund development for all 196 Native American Clubs; strengthening Native American staff through coordinated professional development opportunities; and assisting with Tribal Government relationship building. In 2011 the Coalition announced a job opening for a Chief Development Officer!
“Lynne has helped secure over $250,000 for Clubs in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota during her ten years of service and is living proof that volunteer service can ensure young people have access to a safe place to learn and grow, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity for the future,” said Robert Smith, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of the Missouri River Area. “We are most appreciative of her long-time support.”
