Tennis Anyone? Standing Tall Tennis Tour 2003

This summer, several Native American Boys & Girls Club members had the opportunity to participate in free tennis clinics sponsored by Standing Tall Tennis. David Dantzer, President of Standing Tall Tennis says, “The clinics are designed to excite youth about tennis and teach them about the game.” Dantzer was invested in leaving trained personnel on site, so Standing Tall also conducted instructor training clinics while on tour. Clinics were held on nine different reservations within four regional sections of the United States Tennis Association, sponsor of the 2003 Tour. Dantzer pointed out, “We taught in gyms, on outdoor basketball courts, parking lots, and on grass, but seldom on a regulation tennis court.”

Dantzer adds that during his journey of over 9,000 miles “There were a lot of beautiful sights along the way, but the most beautiful were the smiles of children enjoying tennis for the first time.” Club members at SuAnne Big Crow B&GC, SD; B&GC of the Eastern Shoshane, WY; Tulalip B&GC, WA; B&GC of the Northern Cheyenne, MT; and the Tohatchi B&GC, NM enjoyed participating in this exciting program. Standing Tall Tennis is endorsed by the Native American Sports Council, a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
