Youth team up with SWAT, golfers, soldiers in beat diabetes
walk
By Susan Wagoner, staff writer, The Daily Times, Pryor OK
Walking is taking on a whole new meaning for members of the Pryor
Boys and Girls Club.
Hoping to garner a visit from PGA golfer Notah Begay III, members
of the Green Country Boys and Girls Clubs have joined members of
the national organization, attempting to raise awareness about the
adverse effects of diabetes.
Begay logs the number of miles he walks on the fairways of the
PGA Tour as well as miles he walks on his treadmill. Boys and Girls
Clubs are encouraged to keep up with him in a community effort.
He will pay a personal visit to the Club with the highest average
at the end of the campaign.
The Club with the highest average will receive a visit from Begay
III.
Currently, Boys and Girls Club of Green Country is leading the
pack.
"We have a lot of people who are walking to help our club,"
Leader Tresa Eagle Tate said. "The Pryor Police SWAT Team,
the Pryor Jr. High Golf Team, and eight soldiers from the 120th
Battalion are logging their miles with us to help us win."
Tate's husband Matthew is currently in Iraq with the 120th.
"Notah recently sent us eight autographed pictures for the
soldiers in Iraq, thanking them for their support overseas,"
Tate said.
The contest runs until Oct. 31.
