Back on the T.R.A.I.L. …Diabetes Prevention Grantee Training,
April 26, 2005

NCAI and FirstPic, Inc. conducted a follow up training for T.R.A.I.L. Coordinators
on April 26, 2005, in conjunction with the BGCA National Conference in San Diego,
April 27-30, 2005. The agenda of this second National training focused on nutrition, physical activity, and sharing solutions.

The afternoon began with a few ice breakers to allow T.R.A.I.L. Coordinators to get reacquainted.

LEFT: T.R.A.I.L. Coordinator Debi Bair from the BGC of Sequoyah County (OK) shares her superhero identity.
RIGHT: Guest speaker Marcia Roper, Registered Dietician and Co-Coordinator of the Diabetes Prevention Program, Indian Health Council in Pauma Valley, CA, spoke about nutrition and diabetes. She shared information on The Healthy Plate and the importance of balanced meals for individuals at risk for diabetes.

Representatives of Nike and Notah Begay III reinforced the importance of physical activity in order to stay healthy and strong.  SPARK Trainer BJ Williston facilitated a refresher on the implementation of the NikeGO AfterSchool Program.

Later, T.R.A.I.L. Coordinators led brainstorming sessions and shared ideas for improving family involvement, recruiting volunteers and peer leaders, adapting activities for children with different reading levels and attention spans, and integrating T.R.A.I.L. values (daily physical activity, healthy food choices, and reduced screen-time) throughout the Club.
