Managing Federal grants: It’s all in the paperwork

Check out Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Latest: Grant Central Newsletter!
Summer 2014

Every year, Native Boys & Girls Clubs receive pass through funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. These funds support Clubs in building great futures for their members, but they also come with paperwork. Completing these pieces accurately and thoroughly is just as important as delivering effective programming. To help Clubs be successful, Boys & Girls Clubs in Indian Country (BGCIC) developed a presentation which reviews grant management tools available from Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). This presentation also examines Federal funds reserved specifically for BGCIC’s Clubs through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. BGCIC encourages Clubs to share this resource with new hires or even veteran staff members who could use a refresher on managing Federal grants.

Heads Up! Changes Coming for your 2014 Grants Requirements

On December 26, 2013, the Council on Financial Assistance Reform (COFAR) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a new grants reform guidance measure. This measure merged eight previously separate OMB grant circulars into one "super-circular" intended to reduce administrative burden and risk of fraud, waste and abuse among recipients of federal grant funds.

It will be important for Boys & Girls Clubs to monitor these new measures as all federal agencies, including OJP, must design regulations and adopt the reforms by the close of this year. For more information, click here.
