AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates to Implement Summer Food Service Program

Boys & Girls Clubs in Indian Country will partner with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to provide AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate positions in Native Clubs throughout the country this summer. Summer Associates funded through this initiative will expand and strengthen the capacity of the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program, which ensures that children in underserved areas continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.

The USDA has targeted specific states for this program, and 34 Native Clubs in those areas have been selected to participate. Summer Associates will be recruited from within or in close proximity to the host site’s community, which makes this a perfect opportunity for teens and young adults aged 18-24 who have “aged out” of Club programming. Selected Associates will have the unique opportunity to learn leadership skills while serving their communities over eight weeks.
