NIH Summer Research Program

The NIH Summer Research Experience Program provides high school and college students with the opportunity to participate in high quality research projects. This experience supports educational activities that foster a better understanding of biomedical, behavioral and clinical research and its implications. If chosen, students will be provided with hands-on exposure to research, reinforce their intent to graduate with a science degree, and prepare them for graduate school admissions and/or careers in research.

Eligible Applicants

  • Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • Private institutions of higher education
