“KnowBullying” App to Stop Bullying

Did you know that talking with a child for a mere 15 minutes a day about issues related to bullying can help build self esteem and promote resilience? With nearly one-fifth of all students in grades 9 to 12 experiencing bullying, both on school property and through social media, it is important that youth leaders and parents alike become educated about what children are facing each day in hopes to one day stop bullying all together.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in collaboration with the StopBullying.gov Federal partnership, has created a smart phone app that provides information, conversation starters, and resources to address the needs of children in the age groups 3 to 6, 7 to 13, and teens. KnowBullying provides tips to help you start talking to the youth in your community about school, work, life, and bullying. These conversations help strengthen relationships with youth while building their feelings of connectedness with a dependable adult or mentor.

KnowBullying is available to both iPhone® and Android™ smart phone device users. With the free app, you will have access to the following:

  • Information about bullying
  • Strategies to prevent bullying for youth in the age groups 3-6, 7-13, and teens
  • Warning signs of bullying- including being a bully to others, being bullied, or witnessing peers being bullied
  • Easy conversation starters to open meaningful communication
  • Reminders to talk to your kids at a time that works best
  • Ability to share tips and strategies through email, text message, and social media
  • Quick access to bullying prevention resources
  • Information and resources for educators to help those being bullied and guide those who are engaging in bullying
