January is National Mentoring Month

In January 2002, the Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership came together to bring attention to the importance of youth mentoring. Their combined efforts gave rise to National Mentoring Month, a nationally recognized campaign now held each January!

This month is an opportune time for Boys & Girls Clubs to plan special events around mentoring. Not sure where to get started? Two days of special importance to mark on your calendars are January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, and January 25, #ThankYourMentor Day. The Day of Service is an opportunity to select a community project service with mentors and mentees either at the Club or in the community and ask parents/guardians and others to get involved. #ThankYourMentor Day is a campaign geared towards mentees taking the time to recognize and thank their mentors for all they do.

No matter how you decide to celebrate this January, know that mentoring makes a difference in the lives of our youth, and finding ways to boost your programs will only better serve them. For additional ideas and resources on celebrating National Mentoring Month, visit the sites below!
