BGCIC AmeriCorps VISTA Project Represented at Milestone Celebration

Milestones deserve to be celebrated. This September the New Mexico CNCS (Corporation of National and Community Service) State Office celebrated the 50th anniversary of AmeriCorps VISTA in Santa Fe, NM with current volunteers, volunteer alum, and VISTA supporters alike! Special guests included VISTA Director Paul Monteiro, NM Director Michael Garcia, and famed VISTA alumni turned author, George R.R. Martin, who penned the Game of Thrones series.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country (BGCIC) AmeriCorps VISTA project had some familiar faces that joined in the monumental occasion. Current BGCIC volunteer Emily P., serving the Boys & Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, attended the event along with her site supervisor Bruce LeClaire. Emily and Bruce were joined by BGCIC VISTA alum Stephanie Lefthand who just finished two years of service. Stephanie, who served with the Native Service Unit and the Boys & Girls Club of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, has been an advocate for Native Boys & Girls Clubs during her terms of services as she has attended VISTA celebrations and even earned the opportunity to speak in Washington D.C. about her time as a VISTA with BGCIC.
