National Girls & Women in Sports Day is February 7th

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), a nationwide celebration of the incredible achievements of women and girls in sports! NGWSD began in 1987 to recognize the unique accomplishments of women in athletics, and is now honored each year through community-based events, award ceremonies, and other commemorative activities across the country. The theme for 2018 is, “Play Fair, Play IX.”

Title IX ensures that students receive educational opportunities free from discrimination based on their sex. Although Title IX has increased the number of opportunities for female athletes, many schools across the country still do not provide equal opportunities for girls. The NGWSD Coalition knows that educating the public about the power of this legislation is necessary for full enforcement. The more you understand Title IX and the rights it protects, the better you'll be able to ensure that everyone in your community has the same chance to benefit from playing sports.

For years the NGWSD has empowered women and girls to get moving, embrace physical activity and push past their limits. Join in on the legacy of equality and celebration by promoting girls sports in your Club, too! We hope you will honor NGWSD in your community and Play Fair, Play IX! For more information, click here!
