How to revamp your Club’s website

Ready to try something new to better market your Club, but don’t know where to start? Try updating your website like the Boys & Girls Club of the Leech Lake Area. When the Minnesota Club noticed they weren’t getting as many visitors as usual, they decided to makeover their website to give their online presence a boost.

It worked.

Since launching their new site, the Club has noticed an increase in online traffic. A simple refresh was all they needed to gain traction.

How they did it

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Leech Lake focused on two main elements when refreshing their website: graphics and layout. Their old website looked a little outdated, so staff wanted to refresh the look and feel while also making sure the content was easy to read.

Here is what the Club considered when making their changes:

  • Font size
  • Font color
  • New photos
  • An eye-catching background image
  • Appealing color scheme
  • Simple menu tabs

 And here is the result:

Why we love this

This website has a clean, simplistic feel to it. And the Club has put all of the important information on the front page to make sure their users can get to where they need to go quickly.

Here’s the full breakdown:

  • Home page: When you land on this home page, you see three sections: 1) an intro to the Club 2) links to all of the Club’s units, and 3) a What’s New section? All of the important information is here on the front page, letting visitors get to where they need to quickly. The Club has also made it easy to connect with them by putting  links to their donation pages and social media channels in the footer.
  • Graphics: When it comes to a background image, it’s important to use a high resolution photo. High quality photos make the difference in helping your website look professional. We also love that the photo matches the season. Having a changing element on the site gives your visitors something to look forward to.
  • Site navigation: The site’s menu is broken up into simple, overarching categories, including Who We Are, Club Locations, Core Programs, Membership, Get Involved, and Contact Us. Visitors can hover over the menu options to see a list of the specific web pages under each category. We like that this menu isn’t too cluttered, but it hits on the main topics.

Two thumbs up to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Leech Lake on a redesign well done. Have you also redesigned your Club’s website? Tell us about it! Send us an e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
