Watch the State of Indian Nations Address

This Thursday, the President of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), Jefferson Keel, will give the State of Indian Nations address, just two days after President Obama delivers the State of the Union adress.
In a live webcast, President Keel will speak to a studio audience of tribal citizens and leaders, members of Congress, federal government officials, students and advocates. The speech will be a call to action for presidential candidates, citizens, tribal leaders and government partners to work towards strengthening U.S. and tribal relations. U.S. Congressman Tom Cole of Oklahoma, an enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, will provide the Congressional response.

Strengthening Indian Country through Tribal Youth Programs Seminar

- Explore the feasibility of starting, promoting, and sustaining youth development programs in Indian Country
- Gain an understanding of the organizational relationships between TDHEs, tribal organizations, and national youth development organizations
- Review HUD and other funding sources to support establishing a local youth development program to serve Native American youth
- Learn from the experience of existing youth development programs which are successfully serving the needs of Native American youth to benefit the community

Center for Native American Youth American Indian Alaska Native Heritage Month Event

The Center for Native American Youth will host a panel discussion to recognize American Indian Alaska Native Heritage Month. Entitled “The Historical Journey of Native American Youth,” the discussion will be moderated by the Center’s founder and former U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan. Panel members include Kim Teehee, the White House’s Adviser for Native American Affairs and two members from the Center’s Board of Advisers.

N7 is committed to bringing sport and all of its benefits to Native American and Aboriginal communities in North America. For more than 10 years, N7 has engaged Native communities in the U.S. and Canada in health promotion and disease prevention through various programs by providing inspiration and tools to help individuals lead physically active, healthy lifestyles. The N7 Fund, supported primarily through sales of Nike N7 product, also awards grants to Native American and Aboriginal grassroots sport and fitness programs for youth.

The Prevention of Violent Crime and Gang Violence Workshop

This two-day workshop assists Native American communities in targeting prevention of gangs and violent crime. Participants will learn effective strategies from experts and have the opportunity to assess, prioritize, and plan programs that address critical issues in their own communities.
Topics include:
- Gang awareness, recognition, and response
- How violent crime begins and gains strength in tribal communities
- Gangs and violent crime trends
- Cultural implications of gangs in tribal communities
- Improving the quality of life in tribal communities through effective programs
- Action planning: solutions for the prevention of gangs and violent crime
There is no registration fee for this workshop. Tribes may use Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds to cover travel expenses related to this workshop.
